Shutter Island

This is the poster for the film Shutter Island. From the look of the poster I immediately believe that the film belongs to the horror/thriller genre due to the darkness of the colours used and the main image.
The background of the poster is dominately coloured black which gives the film a sinister, dark and scary look. This image is further enhanced by the image of Leonardo Dicaprio where he is holding a match i think this image shows that he is vulnerable and looking for some sort of hope from the light.
Leonardo Dicaprios face shows fear and the way hes lookings away from the camera may shows hes paranoid and keeping an eye out for some sort of danger.
As well as Leonardo Dicaprios picture doing this it also uses star theory using a big holloywood face and putting it on a poster which may attract a broader audience due to who the main character is.
The point i mentioned of him looking for something maybe being hope it further emphasised with the lighthouse this is the other light colour in the poster. This may be indicating theres hope of him finding what he is looking for.
The films title is coloured in red which may be giving the message of there being danger and violence. This further leads me to believe that the film will be part of the horror/thriller genre.
The image underneath Leonardo Dicaprio shows the island, it is shown as being secluded and dangerous. I believe this because the island is surrounded by water and further more waves on the poster it looks as if waves are bashing against the island. This adds the fact that the film may be a horror giving a no escape look.
The tagline on the poster says "Someone is missing" indicating that Leonardo is there to find somebody and the picture of Leonardo shows this with the match being his aid of trying to find what he's looking for.
